Meet the family...
Clare has always been creative, even from a young age, making clay earrings for her mum to wear, and painting artwork for the walls of the family home. It therefore came as no surprise to her friends and family when she travelled up to Edinburgh College of Art, to study jewellery design and manufacturing, graduating three years later with a BA (Hons).
After completing her degree, and winning several awards for her designs along the way, Clare returned home to Surrey, where she took up a position as a jewellery designer, at a Royal Warrant holding jewellers. She worked her way up through the business, learning the skills of the trade, and after nearly fourteen years of loyal service it was time to branch out on her own.
Clare’s sensitivity and intuitive response to her clients, make her designs truly special, creating pieces of jewellery that will be treasured for a lifetime.
Paul started his career in 1983, when he attended Medway College of Art and Design, in Kent (now known as the University for the Creative Arts). Paul excelled in metal work, especially box making, and after graduating with distinction, went to work for some of the trade’s greats, such as Nicholls & Durrant and Leo Devrooman Alexander, further honing his metalsmithing skills and learning to become a jeweller. During his career, Paul has undertaken work for some impressive clients, such as Asprey, Theo Fennell, the Sultan of Brunei, and the Royal Family, to name but a few.
Paul’s rare skill set has enabled him to turn his hand to most things metal, from creating delicate diamond engagement rings, to a handmade gold and diamond set Easter egg, standing two feet tall!
In 2009, Paul was awarded the highest award for craftsmanship, the Jacques Cartier Memorial Award. His exquisitely hand crafted, working model of an oil rig was not only awarded this prestigious award, but also the gold award for Best Senior Craftsman, the gold award for Best Finished Piece and the gold award for Best Model. Joining the Varoshe team in 2016 is Lewis, Paul’s son, who as an apprentice is starting to learn the family trade. He has already shown a natural aptitude to working with metal, just like his Dad, so you’re sure to find some of Lewis’ work on display in the showroom before too long.
